Welcome! In this post, I want to lay out a few things to help paint a clearer picture of what we're all about. I realize that most of the website in its current state is kind of vague and mysterious, but I hope to add more depth, as well as some of my charming personality, with these blog posts in the future. Consider this post as an FAQ before the FAQ, or better yet, a self-scouting report.
Who are we-really?
Who makes up the Empirical Athletics team? Think of it like a professional care team you would find in a clinical setting, except instead of medical doctors, clinical dietitians, nurses, and therapists, here you will find Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists, sports dietitians, certified athletic trainers, and sports psychologists. As the team grows, so will the number of specialized members. From the beginning, though, the goal is the same no matter which of us you interact with: Collaborate to create a better athlete; you!
What do we offer?
We have several things in the works at this moment that we're excited about, so keep an eye out soon as these are on the horizon:
Sport specific training templates
Custom modified templates for specific athlete considerations
Performance psychology consulting
Premium athletic leisure "athleisure" apparel
Athletics specific dietary supplements, safe for consumption by NCAA and professional athletes
That last one I'm particularly excited about. I can't say too much yet, but we're currently developing a breakthrough pre-workout solution tailored for training performance in athletes. There's nothing quite like it currently on the market, but rest assured that we aim to meet the specific metabolic demands of athletes with this product, keeping in mind throughout the whole process that we want to guarantee our customers that this product, and any other products we sell, are not just clinically efficacious, but also free of any banned substances that could keep them from participating in their sport.
I'll be sure to keep the blog updated when our store goes live with any new announcements and additional details about our offerings, and as always, you can reach out to us at contact@empiricalathletics.co for more information.
Where can you find us?
Well, you've found our website, so that's a start! Aside from our digital home, we don't yet have a physical footprint that you can visit us at. However, being based in Nashville, TN, we welcome local athletes to reach out to us and discuss possibilities for private training accommodations. We are able to train athletes at facilities of their choosing, provided the appropriate permissions are granted by the facility director. Additionally, we may have the capacity to train certain athletes at other specific facilities, and you can reach out to us personally if you would like more information on that. You can also find us online through our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts. These accounts are currently in their infancy, so just give them a follow and you'll start to see content in your feed soon.
Who do we work with?
In short, if you're an athlete, we work for you! Whether you're looking to go D1, playing amateur or professionally, or simply a former athlete who now plays recreationally, our focus is on working together through multiple channels to maximize your performance. We believe in a multifaceted approach, which is why our team is structured the way it is, but by no means is that the only way that everyone wants to operate. With that in mind, those that we serve may choose to work with only one member of our team, or several. Keep in mind that when you work with an inter-professional care team, you can be sure that you're receiving better care because of our ability to communicate with each other at a level that individual trainers and other sports professionals cannot.
Do you have to be an athlete to work with us? Absolutely not! Although athletes are our specialty, we understand that there is a demand among others for athletics-centered strength and conditioning, so if that's how you want to train, then this is the place for you!
What's next?
Looking ahead, what do we envision as we grow? You can expect a stream of great educational articles right here through our blog, including themed article categories like a "Supplement Series" or "Anatomy of the Joints Series". Additionally, we plan to have a larger offering of sport specific templates for training programs, including position specific templates and season specific plans (e.g. off season specific training). For sports nutrition, we hope to offer fully realized diet planning in addition to regular consulting. Eventually, we want to have a facility that athletes can come to train, collaborate, and learn together and from each other.
One area of growth I'm extremely excited about is our offering of athlete-centric dietary supplements. Having received a Master's degree in Exercise and Nutrition Science, I understand how much misinformation surrounds this category of products, and why so many athletes are scared away from them altogether. There are so many products on the market that are ineffective, under-dosed, or downright dangerous to athletes because of harmful or banned substances. I truly want Empirical Athletics to become the gold standard when it comes to dietary supplements for athletes. That's why we are working with NSF through their Certified for Sport program as we develop our products, so that you can be sure that what you're getting really does what it says, and that it's free from substances banned by collegiate and professional sports organizations.
The wrap-up
I hope that this introductory blog post has been helpful in showing you what we're about here at Empirical Athletics, and I hope that you're as excited for the things to come as I am. If there's anything more that I may have glossed over that you want to know, please reach out! Call this our kick off, tip off, puck drop, first pitch, starting gun (you get the idea). This is our beginning, and we're glad you're here with us. Let's build some kick-ass athletes. More coming soon,
Joseph "Joey" Hendricks, MS, CSCS, USAW
